he next generation of mobile internet connectivity is 5G, which offers more reliable connections and faster speeds on smartphones and other devices than ever before.
5G uses the latest high-spec devices and cutting-edge network technology to offer connections that are much faster than previously used mobile technologies. The 5G network is expected to provide the infrastructure needed to carry greater amounts of data, that will eventually enable a more connected and smarter world.
This network has been launched across the UK, US, and Australia, and some other countries around the world. Even though the rollouts of 5G have slowed down recently, carriers are still continuing with their plans to expand existing setups, launch new nodes in new cities and areas, and expand the network.
In the US, 4 main carriers offer 5G connectivity- Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T. However, the signal is still limited and is expected to increase as each carrier grows its network base.
The first to globally offer this next-generation network, Verizon launched its 5G home Network in 2018 and its mobile network in 2019. Verizon 5G has gone live in 35 locations, some of which include Chicago, Memphis, Columbus, Atlanta, Dallas, Kansas City, Little Rock, Los Angeles, and New York City.
T-Mobile used a different strategy and merged successfully with Sprint. Their 5G coverage has a much farther reach, but it delivers at lower speeds. Their coverage initially went live in Las Vegas, Dallas, Los Angeles, and New York City. now, after the merger of Sprint and T-Mobile, their 5G coverage has moved to all 50 states, even though coverage areas and speeds are not universal.
With the most limited investment in the 5G network, AT&T initially expanded its 6G network to cities such as Orlando, San Francisco, Austin, and Los Angeles. Now, they offer true 5G in 190 markets (cities, towns, and counties), and also offer 5G handsets, like the LG V60 ThinQ and the Samsung Galaxy S20 range.
